Made in the Madonie Mountains of Sicily during a lightning storm, this essence also holds the clearing energies of a summer storm.
 
The Acanthus plant, Acanto, in Italian, is one of the oldest flora species in the Mediterranean region. Growing from a base of huge, waxy green jaged leaves, Acanto sends up tall spikes of striking hooded flowers crowned in prickly purple bracts from early spring to early summer, some stalks growing up to 6-feet tall. 
 
Acanto's flowers are pollinated by bumblebees who are large and strong enough to squeeze their way between the upper and lower sepals of the pinkish-white blooms. I spent many hours with a meadow of Acanto in bloom watching bumblebees enter the mouths of the flowers. Once inside, they disappear completely. As the blooms closed around their bodies, I would close my eyes and listen to whatever sacred things they do as they sip the nectar and pollinate the flower. It is in this way that I understand the gifts of Acanto's flower essence. Acanto offers us refuge as we vision and are initiated into new modes of being.
