Lady's Slipper, for Self-Actualization —
This is an essence for those who feel they have been in the process of becoming. For those who, after a long incubation, feel ready to welcome the next step and embrace self-actualization. Pink Lady’s Slipper essence brings clarity and courage where before there was disintegration and stagnation, helping us manifest a life where our inner and outer worlds are in greater symbiotic alignment.
It is important to note that the words incubation, unfocused, disintegration and stagnation in the paragraph above should be thought of as generative and generous words. Within true rest, within chaos, within the dissolution of forms and the slow return to shape that happens within a cocoon, we can find a new way forward.
Incubation welcomes innovation and life. This is what Lady’s Slipper reminds us. The body and mind are sacred chambers within which we can rest, dream, worry, heal, wait, and become until we are ready for our own more realized arrival. Pink Lady’s Slipper can be your guide in this transformative process. The magic is in the patient internal process and the resulting emergent spark: embodied fulfillment, fertility of thought, desire, spirituality, intuition, creativity and action. We emerge from the inner chamber of the self integrated, aligned, ready to embody our truest calling.
Pink Lady’s Slipper essence can also be a guide and a comfort for those healing from sexual or emotional trauma, reminding us that we can heal deep body distress from within as we first take shelter, then recall, heal and integrate those fragmented and wounded parts of ourselves. Helping us open again to deeper levels of intimacy with the self and, if desired, others.
. . .
Pink Lady's Slipper is a delicate, rare and distinctive orchid, which—if you are lucky—can be found glowing among conifer trees in moist woodlands and forests. They are native to my bioregion and are considered rare and of special concern, as their habitats are under constant threat due to urban sprawl and deforestation, over collecting, and even deer browsing. Each spring, for the past ten years, I've returned to the same forest to welcome the orchids who are able to bloom. This essence is made with a plant I've been visiting with for years.
It can often take three years from germination until a Pink Lady’s Slipper seedling makes its first appearance above ground. Then, another three to five years might pass before the plant becomes big enough to flower. Once safely established, a Lady’s Slipper lives for two to three decades, flowering once every three or so years. I’ve read that some plants can live for over a century! That they have the ability to remain subterranean when conditions are unfavorable. When the environment feels safe again, they’ll slowly emerge from the underground, taking their time to grow a bud and bloom. The luminous pink labellum—or central petal at the base of the orchid flower—is a pollination chamber, a place within which a bumblebee is lured but cannot easily exit. Once inside, the bee finds that she cannot leave the same way she entered. Instead, there are delicate hairs within the blossom that guide the bee toward a narrow outlet wherein she will brush against the sticky stigma, passing any pollen she carried from a previous flower visit. As she continues to exit, the bee then picks up a fresh mass of the orchid’s waxy pollen from the anthers, which she’ll carry onward to the next orchid. The magic is in the patient internal process and eventual emergent spark.
This is all a part of Lady Slipper’s medicine: Pollination chamber and the channel through which transformation and emergence become possible, all supported by a rich and wild subterranean life.
